What is expected of me as a host?

As a host, you are offering a safe, welcoming, and respectful home environment where students can feel comfortable and supported while living away from home. Your role is to provide stability, clear expectations, and a positive daily living experience.

As a host, you are expected to:

  • Provide a clean, furnished private bedroom that offers the student personal space, comfort, and privacy.

  • Share common areas such as the kitchen, bathroom, and living spaces, and establish reasonable guidelines for their use.

  • Communicate kindly, clearly, and respectfully with your student, especially when explaining house rules, routines, or expectations.

  • Respect cultural differences and be patient as students adjust to new customs, language, and daily routines, offering guidance and support when needed.

  • Follow all guidelines outlined during onboarding, including safety expectations, supervision standards, and reporting procedures.

  • Follow SRS policies and guidelines, including reporting issues, documenting concerns when needed, and working collaboratively with SRS to resolve situations.
  • Communicate openly and promptly with SRS throughout the program, keeping our team informed of any concerns, changes, or challenges as they arise. Early communication helps us support you and the student effectively.

You are not expected to act as a full-time parent or disciplinarian. Instead, your role is to be a caring, responsible adult presence who provides structure, support, and a welcoming home. When questions or concerns arise, open communication with both the student and the SRS team helps ensure a positive and successful homestay experience for everyone involved.
