What am I responsible for as a student?
As a homestay student, you are responsible for helping create a safe, respectful, and positive living environment. Living with a host family means sharing a home, following agreed-upon guidelines, and communicating openly when questions or concerns come up.
As a homestay student, you’re expected to:
-
Follow your host’s house rules, including expectations around curfews, guests, shared spaces, meals, and daily routines.
-
Be respectful, clean, and considerate, taking care of shared areas and being mindful of noise, schedules, and household norms.
-
Communicate clearly and respectfully with your host if issues arise, plans change, or you need help understanding expectations.
-
Take responsibility for your personal belongings, keeping your room organized and securing important items.
-
Attend school or your program on time and make a genuine effort to meet your academic and attendance responsibilities.
-
Keep your host informed of your schedule and plans, including late nights, travel, or changes to your normal routine.
-
Follow all SRS policies and program guidelines, as outlined throughout your stay.
-
Communicate openly with SRS, informing the team of any concerns, challenges, rule violations, safety issues, or changes in your situation. Early communication helps us support you and resolve concerns quickly.
You are not expected to become part of the family or change who you are. However, you are expected to live responsibly, respectfully, and in accordance with house rules and SRS guidelines. Open communication with both your host and SRS helps ensure a safe, supportive, and successful homestay experience.
