Are there curfews or schedules I need to follow?

Living in a homestay means sharing a home with others and following agreed-upon routines that help keep everyone safe, comfortable, and informed. Curfews and schedules are an important part of this shared responsibility and are designed to support student well-being—not to limit independence unnecessarily.

Curfews

Curfews are set by your host family and may vary depending on your age, school requirements, and local guidelines. These rules help hosts know where you are and ensure your safety, especially in the evenings.

As a student, you are expected to:

  • Follow the curfew agreed upon with your host and SRS.

  • Let your host know in advance if you expect to be home late for a school event, activity, or special occasion.

  • Communicate clearly and honestly if plans change unexpectedly

Daily Schedules

Your host family may have regular routines related to meals, quiet hours, transportation, or shared spaces. While you may not be expected to follow every detail of your host’s schedule, being mindful of household routines helps create a respectful living environment.

Students are expected to:

  • Attend school or their program on time and consistently.

  • Inform hosts of daily schedules, extracurricular activities, work shifts, or travel plans.

  • Be considerate of shared spaces, especially during early mornings or late evenings.

Communication Is Key

Clear communication helps prevent misunderstandings. If you are unsure about curfew expectations, transportation, or daily routines, ask your host or contact SRS for clarification. If you feel a curfew or schedule expectation is unclear or difficult to manage, SRS can help facilitate a conversation.

SRS Support

All students are expected to follow SRS policies related to curfews and schedules. Hosts may contact SRS if concerns arise, and students should also reach out to SRS if they have questions, conflicts, or challenges related to schedules or expectations. By communicating openly and honoring agreed-upon expectations, you help create a positive and successful homestay experience for yourself and your host family.
